Columbus Day 2022

Columbus Day in Huletts usually means the “season” has come to a close. If you are leaving Huletts today, have a safe trip to your home away from Huletts and we hope to see you again in 2023!

Seen on the Big Screen at Citi Field

Congratulations to Adeline (right) who worked at the Huletts Landing Soda Fountain in 2022. Her school band performed recently at Citi Field and her saxophone performance was captured on the Big Screen!!

Joseph R. Rota, R.I.P.

I am sorry to report that Joseph R. Rota, 89, the former Town Supervisor of Dresden, passed away on September 5, 2022. Mr. Rota served numerous terms as the Town Supervisor of Dresden during the 1980’s and was instrumental in the creation of the Town Sewer District #1 in Huletts Landing.

In addition to serving as Dresden Town Supervisor, Mr. Rota also served many years as Executive Director of the Adirondack Park Local Government Review Board. Demonstrating the importance of every vote, he won his first election as Dresden Supervisor by one vote.

On a personal note, I found Mr. Rota to always be fair and an extremely hard worker. I once delivered documents to him as he boarded a train to leave on vacation. A vocal defender for private property rights, he was instrumental in the formation of the first Huletts Sewer District, working with many local citizens, elected state officials and different state agencies to guide the project through a myriad of obstacles.

Our condolences go out his family.

His full obituary and online condolences may be found here: www.carletonfuneralhome.net/joseph-thomas-rota/

“May God support us all the day long, till the shades lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then in His mercy may He give us a safe lodging, and a holy rest and peace at the last.”

Many thanks to the members and supporters of the Huletts Landing Volunteer Fire Company who made this year’s community day a great success. The volunteers brought out the fire company’s trucks and new fire boat for a drill and demonstration of their capabilities on August 28, 2022.

Many thanks to the great individuals who protect our community!

New Lake George Wastewater Treatment Plant Opens

New York Sen. Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) on Wednesday attended the opening ceremony of the Lake George Wastewater Treatment Plant, a facility that aims to ensure the continued health of the “Queen of American Lakes” for generations to come.

For years, Stec joined a chorus of local and state officials calling for state support for the project. Ultimately, the state contributed $14.9 million for the construction of the new plant, including $9.4 million in state grants, and $5.5 million in funding from Water Infrastructure Improvement Act and Water Quality Improvement programs.

A $9 million interest-free loan from the state Environmental Facility Corp. covered much of the remaining cost of the $24.4 million project.

All told, the state support relieved much of the burden from taxpayers in Lake George Village. “Lake George is an ecological wonder and a cornerstone of our local economy. The importance of its long-term health cannot be understated. That’s why for years I’ve joined with local officials and advocated for the funding necessary to complete these upgrades,” Stec said. “I’m pleased that this crucial project has been completed and appreciative of the state’s support.”

Built in 1932, the village’s previous treatment plant had been under consent order with the state Department of Environmental Conservation since 2014. In 2016, DEC ordered the Lake George to overhaul its entire treatment system, which serves the village and several nearby municipalities within the Lake George basin.

The new plant will significantly reduce the amount of nitrates and other pollutants entering the lake.
