News & Opinion About Huletts Landing, N.Y.
I’ve posted the Casino’s August calendar here and on the left sidebar.
One slight change will be that the kitchen will open for dinner at 6pm in August.
The Friends of Historic Huletts Landing are looking for artists to submit a piece of their work to the Friends of Historic Huletts Landing art auction. The auction will be held at a wine and cheese reception in the library/gallery on August 26 from 5 to 7. Works of art will be displayed in the gallery starting on August 22. Profits will be split on a 60/40 basis with the artist getting 60%.
Please contact Tom Keating at 499-2365 for further information.
Today’s children’s program at the Huletts Gallery and Library was a big success.
Happy children, lots of fun, and a wonderful day. It must have been the Friends of Historic Huletts Landing sponsored children’s program!
Fort Ticonderoga sponsored an arts and craft day (my niece brought home a hand-made purse) at the FHHL’s Gallery and Library.
The picture above should say it all. All the children and adults had a great time.
Thank you FHHL and Fort Ticonderoga!!
As I’ve shared earlier, the Lake George Association is running a series of ads this summer spotlighting individuals who are contributing to improving the quality of Lake George.
This is a great series because it demonstrates that anyone and everyone can help in the effort.
I’ll run all of these ads in the weeks ahead.
Here is Cathy LaBombard’s LGA ad. (Click on the picture to follow the link.)
Can our Huletts people recognize the spot??
The Huletts Landing cell tower was painted this past month so that it would blend into the scenery.
I’ve gotten a number of questions regarding the cell phone tower recently so this is what I can currently report:
The cell phone tower was painted this past month making it more difficult to see.
AT&T customer’s are still waiting for local service. I do not have a date certain when the the tower will become fully operational.
Verizon, at this time, has still not made a decision to co-locate their equipment on this tower.
At this time, this is all I can report.

The Whitehall armory, built in 1899, is an historic Romanesque-style brick and stone masonry building designed by architect Isaac Perry, famous for completing the design and construction of the New York State Capitol. The building consists of 29,000 square feet situated on 2.8 acres of land. For over 100 years, the Whitehall armory housed the New York Army National Guard. In 2009, the guard unit moved operations to a new armory constructed in Queensbury, and the property was declared surplus by New York State.

Standing with a model of the statue of Laocoön and His Sons (Italian: Gruppo del Laocoonte), also called the Laocoön Group. The original is a monumental sculpture in marble now in the Vatican Museums, Rome. The statue is attributed by the Roman author Pliny the Elder to three sculptors from the island of Rhodes: Agesander, Athenodoros and Polydorus. It shows the Trojan priest Laocoön and his sons Antiphantes and Thymbraeus being strangled by sea serpents.
Want to see pictures of great art and beautiful places in Italy? Then you’ll want to come to my talk in the Casino this Thursday night.

Over 30 people, including many children, enjoyed having the Lake George Association’s Floating classroom come to Huletts today.
The Friends of Historic Huletts Landing sponsored today’s visit by the LGA’s Floating Classroom.
Everyone had a great time and learned much about the lake’s ecology.
Thanks go out to everyone at the LGA, FHHL, and even the participants, for making this great event happen.

Lee Woodruff will be the featured speaker at this year’s annual meeting of the Lake George Association, on Friday, August 19, at 10 am, at the Lake George Club.
Lee is a New York Times bestselling author and the wife of former ABC news co-anchor Bob Woodruff, who was seriously injured covering the Iraq war in 2006. They have four children. Five generations of Lee’s family have summered on Lake George; their 130-year-old wooden farmhouse was purchased by Lee’s grandparents in the 1960s.
“We’re so pleased that Lee will be our speaker this year,” said Walt Lender, LGA executive director. “She is dynamic, heartfelt, and inspiring. We know that Lake George holds such a special place in the hearts of Lee and her family, and we appreciate that she is willing to come and share her love for the lake and her wonderful stories,” he added.
In addition to Lee’s speech, brief presentations will be given by LGA staff on the status of the Lake George watershed and the protection programs in place for its conservation. The LGA Floating Classroom will be docked at the Lake George Club and will be available for walk-on tours.
Signed copies of Lee’s second book, Perfectly Imperfect: A Life in Progress, will be available for sale to benefit the LGA. The book was a Washington Post Critic’s Pick in 2009. The book is a collection of 17 essays.
The general public is welcome to attend. After the meeting there will be a luncheon buffet. The $25 per person cost for lunch does not include a donation to the LGA. Space is limited. To make a reservation for the meeting and/or the lunch, please contact the LGA at 518-668-3558 or info@lakegeorgeassociation.org, or complete the invitation form available online at www.lakegeorgeassociation.org.
